6th Borough Project make a welcome return to Delusions Of Grandeur to deliver their debut LP entitled "One Night In The Borough". As well as a CD the album is being released as 3 individual singles plus a limited edition triple coloured vinyl pack.

Here we have the first single in the series of 3 including four brand new full-length cuts from the album. "Find A Way" kicks things off and sees the guys deliver what we know as classic 6th Borough material ie. precision cut, edity disco and soul but heavied up with a fat kick and an arrangement which screams out for peaktime plays. "Iznae" hits next with a brilliant wobbling bassline that brings a warehouse feel to proceedings before the groove drops into an unexpected breakbeat section that Harvey Mason himself would be proud of. The long-awaited second instalment of Samuel L Session’s Can You Relate Remixes is finally ready to hit the floors. A full year after part one of the remix packages was released, Joris Voorn, Slam & Anja Schneider bring a plethora of Techno to the table in part 2.
Joris Voorn delivers an outstanding remix in his own archetypical styling. Combining luscious groove with jacking percussion, Joris heads straight to the floor. Slices of the vocal are used rhythmically throughout the track as the off-beat bass drives deep. The now infamous vocal appears at the break, laden with dizzying pan effects, filtered hi-hats and Samuel’s pitch-oscillated synth. Joris is at the top of his game on this release.
Slam’s vocal mix of the Can You Relate track was released first time around and caused raucous reactions on dance-floors the world over. Here, Stuart and Orde’s Dub will no doubt have the same affect!
Anja Schneider turns in 2 dazzling remixes of Samuel’s original, Can You Relate. The first keeps the tempo up, but takes the lights down - a dark and brooding track creeps out from the Mobilee boss’ shadow. Her second remix, Out Of Berlin (digital only), gets all tripped-out, with a very raw feeling emanating from the track. This version is even more sinister with its freaky looping vocal cuts and hovering synth, along with some beautifully crafted effects and fills.

After their hot contributions for “Treats Vol. 2”, SESSION VICTIM prove indeed that they are « On The Roll » with a funkafied and no holds barred EP that pays homage to their Hip-Hop Roots.

» Move Me So « starts rather simply, with just a guitar and a vocal, but you can hear a moving bassline and distant rhodes chords creeping up from the background. Two minutes into the track and there’s still no kick drum, although the level of excitement produced by the magnetic groove is almost unbearable. A filtered drum break finally gives way to a four to the floor beat that should turn any dancefloor into a frenetic party. The track builds with high energy, as the pounding bassline seems to be directly lifted from an early 90’s Hip-Hop classic. The breakdown sees the vocal/guitar loop being played differently until the second part shifts gear and brings more surprises in the mix with the intro rhodes chords coming in and out. But just as you think this jam will stay on the same vibe until the end, the now-famous “Session Victim twist” appears and this time the boys conclude the track with gorgeous keyboard chords that slowly mellow the whole thing out, as if the song has reached serenity after so much action.

» A Wooden Mind« begins with a rather off-beat percussion and bass loop, but a very comfortable analog groove sets in after a while. You’ve just embarked for a fantastic voyage…until a quirky rhodes motif steers the song into a somewhat more hypnotic direction, with a catchy but faint melody playing from a distance. A new part reintroduces the chords found at the beginning while the quiet melody gets pushed to the forefront in its full pop glory. “A Wooden Mind” finishes rather splendidly with elements of the melody appearing at will while the chords gently fade away…

» Secrets « is the EP’s closer and the first 100% Hip-Hop instrumental ever released on Retreat! Starting off in true old school fashion with only a drum workout, the track then releases a Leslie-fuelled organ loop as well as scratchy guitars. Enhanced by vocal snippets emphasizing the importance of being original, “Secrets” is a veritable showcase for Session Victim’s ever-evolving talent and a perfect conclusion to this well-crafted EP.

Jin Choi returns to Archipel to release his second 12" in Archipel's vinyl series entitled "Dig Your Own Out EP". Just as masterful as his first Archipel 12", Jin's second coming is surrounded by an aura of warmth and is highly jazz influenced providing the birthing ground for his fervently smokey textures.

"Lost And Found" initiates with warm rhythms and a gentle chord pulse which grows into a sunny melody whose beams set alight slowly drifting chains of saccharine smoke. "Hurtlocker" features sultry acoustic guitar and piano melodies at its core which are woven tightly and hypnotically into an expertly stitched dance of subtle textures which wind about each other into the small hours of the morning.

Boggler is a simple and reduced spacer that features wonderfully processed drums and an endless arpeggio hypnosis. The track works highly effective only with a few elements until the beat comes back after a massive break. Underlined with a strong sub-bassline, the whole track starts to fly away and is taking the whole dancing crowd with on its journey.

Eve By Night – a counterpart to “Eve By Day”, Patrick’s biggest hit so far, starts rather smoothly and upbuilding. Hot Flush's London techno agent drops a mixed bag of subs heavy tech-house and garage-spiked techno. 'Shake' is the pick of the bunch, pin-pointing a warm and well-rounded dry tech-house swing somewhere between Ben Klock and Scuba's respective styles. On the other hand, the flipside 'Shapes' is a more awkward customer, seeming too fast for modern techno standards, but too rigid for the future garage posse, i guess it's a case of suck it and see for yerself? 'Light Swells (In A Distant Place)' completes the package with a Detroit/Berlin inspired ambient electronic construction.

In this second part of the 'Beyond' project, Organon delivers the natural extension of his first release on ZeECc, published in February 2010. For that, he keeps his incredible way of combinating soft melody and stirring grooves. The chemistry course is for Michael's father aka Phonique quickly to triviality, when he moves to Berlin in the mid 90s. As for Booker club events is growing interest in electronic music and quickly raises the question why he did not se parties organized by LBST behind turntables at the ste ht. No sooner said than done. A year later go ört Phonique already Germany's top DJs. Stylistically, he mixes hip hop in unpredictable disco beats and combines Drum 'n' bass with breakbeat.

2002, appears the mix-CD "QuadroPhoniquekikz" two years later his first album "Identification", full cooperation with Erlend Øye, Ian Whitelaw or Dixon. With "The Red Dress" Phonique is easily at the head of the German Club Charts. This is followed by remixes for Frankman, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Erlend Øye and DJ sets on nearly every continent.

Phonique is working around the clock. After establishing his own "Ladies & Gentlemen" label, he released his album "Good Idea" on Dessous Recordings. And "Bang" develops itself for him to the club surprisingly popular songs between House and Minimal. Quite understandable since the Wu nsch on his MySpace page: "Ask me not to listen to your music. I have no time for that! Sorry as I also do ... "No problem, hear him play! Every four weeks at Sputnik Resident. One thing is certain: the musical chemistry is right here - even without a degree.

Truly beautiful deep house records are things to be treasured, akin to proper songs that will last the test of time, not made to meet a fleeting fad. This is one of those records and a real pinnacle & departure for BLM & Pawas. Although the term deep is an oft overused one, >Waiting Game< personifies the genres true key traits with a subtly moving groove that gradually builds, using layers of subtle percussion and a rich, warm synth motif to make a rich tapestry of sounds before finally introducing the beautiful female vocal that gives the track its name. Patrice Scott liked the track so much that he agreed to remix it - his first ever outside of his own, excellent, Sistrum label. Using plenty of the original track parts but taking it a different direction, Patrice really has come up with something special. The track moves along with snippets of the main vocal and clever use of the main synth, the groove being underpinned by Patrice\ s classic sense of production before moving into a more classic >Detroit< ending - a mindset with a bigger, more dramatic sensibility Tracklisting:

That Marek Hemmann has developed his own personally formed style is undeniable. Now he is headed in the direction of song instead of tracks. With his success up until now in his rear view, he has managed with a lightheartedness to establish his own mark and develop himself even further. However thoughtfully, where pop is right now in the club context generally negatively regarded, here it is more a pushing of the envelope. He is simply a conductor of building blocks with a positive aura, which he joyfully presents to his public. Sometimes itís the hypnotic groove in which a one can so easily lose themselves, and then there is this melodic-ness, sometimes dreamed physical and euphoric joy, which excites so effectively. Also on his new 12inch Marek is the leader in the stuff of producing; on point, in the center of the heart of the club. This time he has for both pieces marshaled foreign forces. Fabian Reichelt intones with an airiness and soul, a guarded yet intenseness on both sides. It is Hemmans first real vocal record which will, just as his own discography has already, enrich the dance floors and beyond. What has been for many a red light is, sometimes a hazard, here you have a delight. Yes
to a voice, yes to fresh techno as it appears to be the mark of this here record.

So typical for Hemmans handwriting, but also so refreshingly done. The voice is added perfectly to the soundscape, underfed from a modulated string arrangement, and a sunny euphoria celebrated in one. With a slick set of breaks, a clear understanding of pop equipped with a drive that the clubs will just fawn over, here stands the mark of a somehow, most definitely, in the direction of Hit.

B Right (feat. Fabian Reichelt)
This sexiness spraying vehicle of the moving lust strikes in an orderly fashion, and makes no mistake about the point of where itís going: Dance! Textually as well as beat driven, the words are clearly defined. Wonderfully refined with the necessary ingredients meant for the man who is at once astounded at how the female counterpart swings the waist and hips, only to entice him to reciprocate.

For the latest Off-key release, we turned to some of our favourite producers to to remix our previous release, 'From The Periphery'. Matt explains the rationale behind choosing each remixer:

"One of the first names on the list was Schatrax, aka Josh Brent. I've never been a completist when it comes to buying vinyl but I used to scour the second hand shops hunting down every last Schatrax release. I was thrilled when Josh agreed to remix Dodaso and the result is a typically beautiful and deep reworking.

Another producer on the original shortlist was Todd Sines as I've been a fan of his stripped back, tweaking minimalism for some time. Todd's remix of Dodaso is typically fucked up and funky in true .xtrak style.

On the flip I turned to some newer producers, the first of which is KiNK, who caught my attention with the twisted sound of his solo releases as well as collaborations with Neville Watson on Rush Hour. His remix of The Gauntlet remains quite faithful to the original whilst also instilling it with his own trippy and unique style.

Last year Peder Mannerfelt, aka The Subliminal Kid, sent me a track which became the only track released on Off-key through a demo submission. Peder ended up having a stellar year as part of the production team behind Fever Ray so I was very happy to have him remix Blackwood Freestyle which he's mutated it into a rolling dub inflected groover."

Pieces like "Soleil Blanc", "Toujours Encore" and "Harmonique Dans la Tête" inflate a darker foil of broken beat oriented rhythmic structures constructed from a succulent palette of textures from which Sul.a's heated melodic elements are hinged to mesmerizing effect. In a perfect ratio of inclusion also are more dancefloor oriented pieces such as "Aquacéphale" and "Barberie Binaire" which combine dark atmosphere with sultry and warm textures creating a magnificent contrast wrapped up in a glowing shawl of hypnosis. "La Modération" and "À Ciel Ouvert", of which is in two complimentary parts, II without beats, take on a still dancefloor but much deeper and aquatic palette of aural tones which sweep up one's mind and send it off into a beautifully frothy ocean of sky blue and summer drizzle kissed warmth.

Lancashire’s sons of occult darkness push off into the night with the first in a triptych of spellbinding vinyl-only LP’s. ‘Forest Of Evil’ is a direct elevation and expansion of the ideas expressed on the debut album, ‘Symbiosis’, literally breaking down multiple elements to run as two extended pices – one on each side, giving more scope to suck us into an abyssal vortex of inky blackness without interruption. The sides are themed as ‘Dusk’ and ‘Dawn’, entry and exit points for a trip where owt can happen in between. On the palindromic ‘Dusk’ tentative strings with one eye on Alice Coltrane imbue an astral sense of wonderment before plunging us head first into the cold water of elliptical percussion. With lungs and ears flooded we’re churned in a current of Shackleton-esque percussion at the bottom of a tarn, high in the hills before returning to the coruscating strings on the surface. With ‘Dawn’ a battery of warlocks forge a martial tattoo, like Regis sent to the dark ages to live out his fantasies with a medieval drum circle. And then, out of nowhere, an ominous veil of layered strings emerges out of nothing to sweep us away with vintage elements and ghostly traces of sound last heard on the sublime last album from the Caretaker as quivering subbass tremors threaten to open the ground beneath the turntable. Approach this when under the influence of magic potions for maximum rewards…

Detroit's Eric Johnston who has already brought Archipel a remix of Marc Neyen and an EP on Kalimari now brings us a superb four track 12" entitled "Silly Girl".

This whole package is a highly rhythmic affair which while darkly tinted remains very funky. "Stop Calling Me" is the most percussion oriented of the pieces and instantly sucks you into its very well thought out labyrinth of sky high rhythms which are layered just so and double dipped in liquid funk while "Labrador" strips things down a little more and wraps you in blankets of warm and rubbery groove.

"Worth It" carries on with the perfect shuffle and utilizes a wonderful blend of warmth and funk which take hold of your mind and feet with an unrelenting grip while it ebbs and flows, building a heated story as it progresses. "Munted" could be three pieces in and of itself but blends them all expertly into one single solid storyline which takes you through mazes of juicy percussion and excellently placed, darkly hued, very deep chords which no doubt will cause many a spine to pleasantly arch.

With his style firmly planted in the tech house scene, legends such as Laurent Garnier, Loco Dice and Joris Voorn have used his tracks in their sets and "The Guardian" is set to follow a similar route to fame. With bouncing, warm chords, and building synths, title track "The Guardian" will fill a room with deep sounds and energy, whilst "Personal Feeling" keeps the warm bounce afloat and introduces a soulful vocal. B side track "Numa" has a more stomping bass line with a slightly twisted and mysterious vocal, and B2 "Over and Ever" seems to bring all the elements together. The Tropics EP is something quite different and something quite special. The seven track mini album is the product of an 18 month collaboration between LA based beatmaker Teebs and UK producer Jackhigh, and is already attracting serious praise.

Back in the day, London based Jackhigh had already been featured as 17 year old on the genre-defining Beatnicks EPs from Up My Alley label and started to get involved in collaborations, producing remixes and so on, while an equally young Teebs found himself living in LA with Flying Lotus and Samiyam for flatmates. As Teebs remembers it, Jackhigh put a snippet of a tune he liked on Myspace and Teebs asked him to send it over. “I flipped it, sent it back. He added strings, sent it back to me again. I flipped it again” And so it continued, in a slow organic way, loops becoming processed and degraded and altered and added to, and tracks slowly emerging.

Over time a total of seven tunes emerged. These tracks were produced in a unique way: they never existed as arrangements laid out in software on someone’s computer, only as a single stereo file, passed to and fro, and endlessly worked and tweaked and eroded.

Still early into 2010 The Tropics EP is a very different record and a sign of things to come: fresh, organic, mature, holistic, unified, and totally next level.

Rick Wade, the self-entitled new Duke of Cologne returns to Cologne based Yore Imprint, the Real Dukes in town. The Detroit based Deep House Soldier Rick Wade has been around for a long time and has been releasing deep house tracks long enough to warrant the ‘old master’ title (all the way back in 1993, he built his own studio and established his Harmonie Park label), and now he returns of the mighty Duke Of Cologne with a three-track Yore follow-up to his fabulous 2008 full-length The Good, The Bad And The Deep.It takes mere seconds for the title cut’s deep bass-and-drum pulse to work its magic. Driven by a slinky backbeat, the tune gets its skanky kick from a wah-wah guitar figure in the background and the silky allure of classic disco-era strings. As he’s done elsewhere, Wade occasionally strips the track down to its bare-bones essence, all the better to highlight the tight groove beating at its center. Helped along by a lightly strutting groove, synthesizer motifs and washes bring a more subdued brand of funk to the late-night serenade “Forever Pimp” before “Moving On” rolls out the immense thrust one has come to expect from Wade. Alongside a driving house rhythm, congas and electric piano add colourful atmosphere while a snake-charmer flute melody and high-pitched strings take turns in the spotlight. Here and elsewhere, Wade always infuses his material with personality. If there’s a down-side to Duke Of Cologne, it’s that the release is three tracks only, rather than a full album. Whether listened to while driving on the highway or on a massive speaker stack at next summer’s festivals, one thing is for sure: Crash Test will splinter preconceptions. The album is a compilation of tracks, picked from among many works he has created over the last 15 months at his Hannover studio and various spaces and places worldwide. Each song pays testament to this Grammy-nominated artist’s fluid approach to music composition - an ability to converse with machines, and dive deep into the circuitry of a song. Buttrich has spent recent years developing a sound that appeals to both sides of the brain: having dropped records on labels such as Planet E, Four:Twenty, Cocoon, Poker Flat and Desolat that encompass the entire spectrum between dreaminess, intuition, warmth, melancholy, and highly calibrated dancefloor precision. Meanwhile his catalogue stretches round some of the most influential dance tracks heard around the globe since 1992. Ark has got an eclectic and “organic” sound, something in between. From his origins as guitarist in a number of 80’s funk bands, most notably Trankilou, where he hooked up with the legend that is Pepe Bradock and onto the great Matthew Herbert & LoSoul with their first collaboration, ‘Belle Lurette’ in ‘99. The ‘Alleluyark’ EP series from 2003 reaffirmed as his status as chief protagonist of experimental, groove led house and techno. His 2005 long player on Perlon, ‘Caliente’ won him critical acclaim, which is furthered by his more recent works together with Shalom (as Shalark), Krikor (as Krikark), Cabanne (as Copacabannark), Mikael Weill (as Les Cerveaux Lents) and Dolibox. His cannon of remixes is as long as the channel tunnel, reworking the likes of Stephen Beaupre, Mr. Oizo, Archive, Mossa, Salif Keita, Slabb, Fym, Robag Wruhme … ARK’s new LP (cd+vinyl) features singers (Xanax, Lippie) and is here now…

*New twelve from Claro Intelecto, Mastered and cut at Berlin's Dubplates & Mastering* Mark Stewart has been recording under the Claro Intelecto moniker for a decade now, and every time he has a new record out we think its the best thing he's ever done. This latest two-tracker really does make us wonder about Claro's recording process, he is an artist that seems so removed from the changes and trends emerging out of electronic music on an almost weekly basis, and yet something about his work always seems to subliminally reference the zeitgeist in his own inimitable way. The twelve opens with 'Back In The Day' - a slow and compressed House reduction making use of submerged strings and heavy kicks, it's a track that employs a filthy New York aesthetic with that distinctive, modified square bassline that's become a Claro signature over the years, but now somehow bent out of all recognition. As far as we're concerned - it's just an out and out dancefloor classic. 'New Life' on the flip is also wired for the floor, yet features skewed and euphoric chord sequences that evoke the hazy nostalgia of Ducktails or Oneohtrix Point Never re-imagined via tubular dancefloor machinations. It has that strange effect of driving peaktime activities without ever resorting to cheap thrills, evoking that same 1980's television haze refracted through the tubular machinations of 21st century club music. Amazing twelve.

Ever since John Tejada and Arian Leviste began releasing music in 1994 people have often wondered what is Arian’s role in the production duos sound? Leviste has created much of his own music but was never interested in releasing it, choosing to focus on collaborations with Tejada instead. Finally, the long wait is over! We are proud to present the first solo effort by Leviste and it’s been worth the wait. Three ultra varied tracks starting with the driving drums and bassline of “Senioritis.” “Better Get Used To It” shows off Leviste’s melodic abilities with a beautiful melancholic epic. These first two songs really show what an important role Leviste has played in the duos productions over the years. “Change The Station” rounds things out with a bit of modular synth experimentation over a jacking rhythm track. While work with Tejada is mostly done in John’s studio, these tracks were all created pretty much without Tejada’s knowledge in Leviste’s own studio made up of various modular and classic synths and beat boxes. Leviste also finding strong values in working with hardware instruments creates his productions in a classic style working out of the box. Arian has been exclusively involved in much of John Tejada’s work for the past 16 years ranging from eps on 7th City and Pokerflat to full length albums on Moods and Grooves, Playhouse, and of course Palette Recordings.

‘Blu Samba’ confirms Queen Atom’s talents to make dancefloors sashay to his beat and is strengthened with remixes from two highly rated artists who we welcome with open arms to Serialism, Ahmet Sisman and Seuil.

‘Coka Zero’ has elaborate percussions and an elegant beat, while Perlon-esque sounds melt right into the landscape, A beautiful master melody often wakes up bringing everything to a complete harmony. A driving groove with playful drum patterns and jazz elements really showcasing Queen Atom’s production talents that have been demanding attention from his Dumb Unit releases and live performances around the world, most notably at Watergate and CityFox.

‘Fix ur mama’ is a very analog-sounding techno affair with that oscillating bass guiding the tune all the way through, with delicate percussions tempting and teasing us and filling all the interesting spaces. A deep track that forces us to move.

‘Coka zero’ gets remixed by Ahmet Sisman. As we all know, Ahmet Sisman brings a totally fresh and unrepenting take on all things house and techno! The groove in his remix is just a purely coherent rhythm, complemented by techy hihats and delayed vocals taking us deep and sexy; breathy, fresh and groovy!. A track to cause serious damage! Ahmet’s take will shake any building to its foundations with his unapologetic bomb!

Seuil then comes in with his own edit in his unique and elegant style that has been gathering followers from all corners of the globe. The drive and propulsive groove is there whilst he experiments with jazz keys off setting the original elements that are still in tact. As would be expected from this artist at the top of his game, his remix is sublime production with hints of romance, deep elements all playing around a beautiful groove. Seuil bringing a masterful debut remix for Serialism!

Also available digital format only a powerful old edit of “Buiya” from Ahmet himself, previously released on Stock5 and remixed exclusively by Queen Atom for Serialism, courtesy of the Bavarian imprint. A beautiful track with a tight groove and beautiful eerie voices insisting we congregate in the middle of the dancefloor as strings, bells, keys and a selection of other sounds take us on a interesting trip!. One year after his first 'Moment To Dub EP' on ZeECc and several releases for Schall-Netlabel or Deepindub, Axs is back with his first album entitled 'Decomposed Extracts'. This concept album contains 8 dub-techno, minimal and tech-house tracks, adapted around dynamic chords, plus 2 interludes, for soft and ambient moments. Even if numbering is not clearly ordered, this complete release, the progression and development are made to never let you down until the last second.

Not strictly in a dub-techno way, 'Decomposed Extracts' includes many influences from United States (Juan Atkins, Convextion, DeepChord, Sean Deason...), Germany (Moritz Von Oswald, Mark Ernestus, Monolake...), Netherlands (Ohrwert, Newworldaquarium), UK (Brian Eno), and more. All these names transform, during 72 minutes, this album into a pure musical moment. So style, harmonics, rhythmics and groove are just sublimate and tidily polished.
